Wine Review Archive - Chile, Chardonnay

Casa Lapostolle

2005 Chardonnay Casablanca Valley Cuvee Alexandre Atalayas Vineyard ($20). Could easily be mistaken for Napa Chardonnay, with its ripe pear, fig and hazelnut flavor profile and long, creamy finish. Very good, and a good value, too. Ready to drink now. (Robyn's Picks 07/07)

2004 Chardonnay Casablanca Valley ($12). Lush flavors at an affordable price, featuring hazelnut-laced fig and cream, pear and a toasty oak finish that lingers nicely. Ready to drink now. (Bargain Wine 04/06)

Concha y Toro 2004 Chardonnay Casablanca Valley Casillero del Diablo ($9). A refreshing quaff, with juicy apple and lemon flavors that mingle with mineral and toasty oak touches. Ready to drink now. (Bargain Wine 04/06)

Luis Felipe Edwards 2002 Chardonnay Colchagua ($8). Ripe pear and peach fruit, with smoky, spicy oak throughout. Enjoyable. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine , 10/03)

Montes 2001 Chardonnay Curico Valley Reserve ($10). Good value with this Chilean Chardonnay, with crisp pear and apple fruit balanced with lush tropical influences and moderate creamy oak. Ready to drink now. Nice with garlic and herb cream cheese spread on flatbread. (Weekend Wine, 10/02)

Vina MontGras

2001 Chardonnay Colchagua Valley ($7). Showy pineapple, kiwi and lime surround a solid apple core in this medium-bodied, refreshing wine. Finishes crisp and clean. Good value here. Ready to drink now. (Winery Spotlight, 10/02)

2000 Chardonnay Colchagua Valley Reserva ($10). Lush banana accents on the bouquet are repeated on the palate, merging with crisp green apple and pear flavors. All on a medium-bodied frame with mouthwatering citrus acidity offset by creamy oak. Another good value. Ready to drink now. (Winery Spotlight, 10/02)

Viña Santa Rita

2005 Chardonnay Casablanca Valley Medalla Real ($17). A lot of wine for the money, this Chilean Chardonnay offers ripe tropical aromas and flavors that are balanced with juicy citrus and an appealing burst of cleansing acidity. Long, elegant finish is accented with creamy vanilla. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 09/07)

2005 Chardonnay Casablanca Valley Medalla Real Special Reserve ($19). Sweet tropical fruit flavors mix with creamy vanilla and an odd vegetal note. Didn't care for it. (Robyn's Picks 07/07)

Vina Tarapaca 2002 Chardonnay Maipo Valley Estate ($8). Light tropical, coconut aromas introduce soft melon and apple fruit. Could use more complexity and body. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine, 12/03)

Viu Manent 2002 Chardonnay Colchagua Valley Reserve ($12). Extracted nectarine and melon flavors are balanced with a juicy citrus note and buttery, toasty oak. Ready to drink now. (Bargain Wine 10/04)
