Wine Review Archive: Chile: Shiraz/Syrah

2 Brothers 2004 Syrah Colchagua Big Tattoo ($9). Appealing for its lush black currant and berry flavors that are accented with mint and black pepper. Smooth finish. Ready to drink now. (Robyn's Picks 07/07)

Concha y Toro 2004 Syrah Peumo Marques de Casa Concha ($19). Unexpectedly elegant, with focused cassis and currant fruit that picks up pretty spices and toasty oak on the plush finish. Ready to drink now. (Robyn's Picks 07/07)

Luis Felipe Edwards

2002 Shiraz Colchagua ($8).Pleasant, moderate fruit and spice. Nothing exceptional, but drinkable. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine , 10/03)

2001 Shiraz Colchagua Gran Reserva ($13). Rich vanilla-laced black cherry and blackberry fruit, with white pepper and toasty oak. Easy to drink now! (Weekend Wine , 10/03)

Santa Rita

2004 Syrah Alto Maipo Floresta ($45). Bold and concentrated, with black currant and dark chocolate aromas and flavors layered with pretty spices and toasty vanilla. Lots of oak going on here, but the fruit is so intense that it all seems to balance out. Long, tightly wound finish. Ready to drink now and over the next four or five years. 2004 Shiraz Maipo Valley Reserva ($11). Easy drinking wine here, with ripe red berry and cherry flavors accented with toasty oak and a slight kick of spice. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 03/07)
