Calera 2006 Dessert Viognier Mt. Harlan ($30, 375ml) is gorgeous, with elegant apricot aromas that open up to fleshy apricot flavors accented with citrus marmalade, honeycomb and bright acidity. Super long finish gains spice notes as it evolves. We paired it with a tropical banana cake, but honestly, it doesn’t need a thing. Delicious now and over the next three or four years. Cambria 2006 Viognier Late Harvest Tepusquet Vineyard ($16, 375ml). Gorgeous stuff, offering intensely concentrated, complex aromas and flavors that include honeysuckle, fig, apricot, caramelized brown sugar, cream and candied citrus peel. Rich, luscious, certainly sweet, but with some balancing brightness. Ready to drink now and over the next two or three years. Excellent value.  (2009-08-04) Locate this wine online or in your area.

Chumeia 2005 Silver Nectar Mendoza ($10). A blend of Torrontes and Chenin Blanc, this fun white offers vibrant peach aromas that are repeated on the flirtateously sweet palate, with a kick of spice on the finish. Not overly complex, but still likeable. Works with Thai or Mexican food, but we liked it best with a fruit dessert. Ready to drink now. (Bargain Wine 10/06) Locate this wine online or in your area.

Clayhouse 2006 Petite Sirah Paso Robles Late Harvest ($25, 375ml). Appealing for its rich black raspberry and sweet cassis flavors that are laced with deep chocolate and baking spice accents. With a silky, mouthcoating finish. Works as a dessert all by itself, or paired (as we did) with a decadent ice cream topped brownie. Ready to drink now. Maple Creek 2001 Symphony Yorkville Highlands-Mendocino County Late Harvest Artevino  ($34, 375 ml). Fabulous nose is rich and honeyed. Merryvale Antigua ($30, 500 ml). Fortified with brandy, apricot-hued Antigua packs a velvet-gloved punch with spicy orange and apricot fruit flavors and toasted nut and oak accents. It’s addictively delicious stuff! For a cheese and fruit course, try pairing it with Summer ripe peaches with dollops of fresh goat cheese, sprinkled with chopped pistachios, slivered and toasted almonds, or crumbled amaretto cookies. Tobin James 1997 Dessert Zinfandel Paso Robles James Gang Reserve “Liquid Love” ($18). This is a port-style wine, but not fortified, if that makes any sense. It’s incredible – dark and slurpable. Liquid Love is right. (Robyn’s Picks, 12/99) Locate this wine online or in your area.
