Adegas Morgadio 1997 Albarino Rias Baixas Torre Fornelos ($8). You put the lime in the coconut and shake it all up… This is the wine equivalent to a piƱa colada, and it works! Could easily work as an aperitif on a hot summer day. (Spanish Wine & Tapas Party, 10/99)
Bodegas Vilarino-Cambados 1997 Albarino Rias Baixas Burgans ($7). This is one of those “how do they do that?” wines. On the one hand, it is crisp and bright with plenty of citrus notes. On the other hand, it has a smooth vanilla ripeness that includes hints of fig and mango. Wonderful! (Spanish Wine & Tapas Party, 10/99)
Mar de Frades 2002 Albarino Rias Baixas ($16). Tart lemon and ripe apple mingle nicely, with undertones of hay and mineral. Works well with spicy foods. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine, 03/04)
Marques de Caceres
1999 Rioja White ($8). This is a consistently drinkable dry white wine from Spain. With sunny, floral notes, a smooth citrus balance, and a hint of sweetness, this wine paired well with our spicy Cajun meal. (Weekend Wine, 08/00)
1997 Rioja White ($6). I like this wine every year. What might otherwise be a rather ordinary one-note white is made interesting and very drinkable by the toasted nut accents and citrus balance. Easy quaff. (Spanish Wine & Tapas Party, 10/99)
Bodegas Montecillo 2004 Rioja White ($8). Dry and refreshing, the clean, lemon and mineral notes lacing juicy apple and pear. Ready to drink now. (World Wide Wine 08/06)
