Fleur du Cap 2005 Chardonnay Coastal Region ($11). Spiced pear and ripe tropical fruit flavors pick up toasty oak and a touch of cream on the finish. Lots of bang for the buck here. Ready to drink now. (World Wide Wine 06/07)

    Glen Carlou

1999 Chardonnay Paarl ($14). This vintage is every bit as good as the last few. Complex but clean on the palate, it features a sophisticated package of rich orchard fruit integrated with subtle oak. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine, 02/01)

1997 Chardonnay Paarl ($13-$15). This is a South African Chardonnay that is really BIG. Complex and smooth orchard fruits, with nice oak and a bit of spice make for a truly tantalizing wine. Well worth the effort to find. (Richard’s Picks, 6/99)

Graham Beck 2004 Chardonnay Western Cape Pinno ($10). No oak or heavy, creamy notes interfere with the medium-bodied pretty pear, apple, nectarine and orange citrus flavors that are juicy and balanced and refreshing through the finish. Easy to like. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 02/06)

Man Vintners 2008 Chardonnay Coastal Region ($11). Ripe, fruity and easy-drinking, with juicy green apple, crisp pear and ripe melon — medium bodied, finishes clean. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2010-06-02)
