    Blandy’s

NV Madeira Malmsey 10-Year-Old ($38). Sweet, rich and concentrated, with bright caramel and honeyed aromas and flavors that end in a long, nutty finish. Ready to drink now and over the next 4-5 years. (2011-03-05)

NV Madeira Malmsey 15-Year-Old ($47). Intense caramel and burnt brown sugar notes are laced with savory coffee and walnut notes, candied orange and lightly salty tang that lingers on the long finish. Pair with something nutty. Ready to drink now and over the next 4-5 years. (2011-03-05)

1994 Madeira Colheita Malmsey ($48, 500ml). A “wow” wine — tangy fleur de sel lingers in the background and gives a subtle hit to the orange rind, caramel, maple, toffee and smoky walnut flavors. Clean, intense, powerful but not at all heavy. Ready to drink now and over the next 8-10 years. (2011-03-05)

NV Sercial Madeira 5 Year Old ($21). Really (really!) liked this wine — and a heck of a value, too! With dry toffee, espresso, orange rind, and berry flavors, and an appealing nuttiness from start to lingering finish. Perfect for a pre-dinner plate of Manchego, Serrano ham, almonds and olives. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 01/06)

NV Verdelho Madeira 5 Year Old ($21). Medium-dry, with focused fig, honey and orchard fruit flavors that finish with toasted almond and a burst of mouthwatering acidity. Delicious with Roquefort and apple slices — before or after dinner, or any old time at all! Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 01/06)

NV Malmsey Madeira 10 Year Old ($36). Rich and luscious, with deftly balanced fig, walnut, butterscotch, vanilla, cream and pretty citrus aromas and flavors. Long, complex finish. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 01/06)

NV Alvada Madeira 5 Year Old ($15). Incredible – and a heck of a deal! Toasted peanut aromas and flavors underlie pretty honeyed, caramelized light berry character, with an appealing waxy element. Wonderfully lingering finish. Ready to drink now. (Robyn’s Picks 04/05)

Cossart Gordon 1990 Colheita Bual Madeira ($32). A medium-rich style, offering “Tawny” aromas and flavors. Heady topnotes include Seville oranges and racy berry fruit — on a focused, spicy frame. Pretty and traditional. Loved it with a hunk of Stilton and honeyed apricots. Ready to drink now and over the next four or five years. (Weekend Wine 01/06)

    Leacock’s

NV Madeira Rainwater Medium Dry ($13). Wow, what a deal! With seductive, ripe tropical fruits laced with butterscotch, toasted whole spices and a smoky finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. (Bargain Wine 10/06)

NV Madeira Rainwater ($13). A medium-dry style, with moderate smoke, caramel, hazelnut and dried fruit flavors. Similar to a dry Sherry, try this one chilled as an aperitif. Nothing particularly special here, but a very good choice for use in sauces. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 01/06)
