Banrock Station 1999 Semillon Chardonnay ($10) is a medium bodied, easy drinking wine with good fruit, honeysuckle, and lime flavors. (Wine Tasting Party, 11/00) Locate this wine online or in your area.

Brokenwood

2007 Semillon Hunter Valley ($20). Racy lime aromas and flavors stay focused from beginning to end, with grassy character and some pear fruit mid-palate and a slate note on the finish. Super refreshing and clean. This totally works now (think this Spring and Summer as an aperitif or with shellfish), but I would also be really interested to try it again in five or six years. So maybe buy some for now and some for later! Locate this wine online or in your area. (2009-03-03)

2004 Semillon Hunter Valley Oakley Creek Vineyard ($32). Smooth and supple, with juicy apple, lemongrass and citrus aromas and flavors that mingle on a balanced, integrated frame. Long, intense, slightly creamy finish. This one seemed rather complete to me, so I would drink it sooner than later, say within the next couple of years. And I’d pair it with something like an upscale picnic or dinner al fresco of grilled or fried chicken and a French-style potato salad. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2009-03-03)

2003 Semillon Hunter Valley ILR Reserve ($48). Iain Riggs is the winemaker, so I’m guessing ILR are his initials, and he surely must be justifiably proud to put his name on this lovely wine. Released after five years of bottle aging at the winery, the wine offers bright citrus aromas and flavors layered with lemongrass, musky melon and some nuttiness, and a rich, complex finish. Delicious now but should also age well for another six to eight years. I would pair this with best quality white-fleshed fish, simply grilled and seasoned. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2009-03-03)

Brookland Valley 2002 Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc Margaret River Verse 1 ($16). Waves of aromatic passionfruit, grass and citrus flavors are crisp and refreshing. Ready to drink now; easy to pair with summer food. (Weekend Wine, 06/03) Locate this wine online or in your area.

Chittering 1997 Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc Western Australia ($15). This is a wonderful wine — full of lush fig, apple pie, and herbal flavors. A lovely finish lingers beautifully. This wine is drinking very well now, but would probably also age very nicely for the next couple of years. (Wine Tasting Party, 11/00) Locate this wine online or in your area.

De Bortoli 2002 Sémillon New South Wales Noble One Botrytis ($25). Yowza! Unctuous, honeyed and rich, with marmalade, apricot, fig and cream aromas and flavors that finish with an acidity boost that adds excellent balance. Impossible to resist. Ready to drink now and over the next six or seven years. (World Wide Wine 01/05)

Jacob’s Creek

2003 Semillon-Chardonnay South Eastern Australia ($8). Aromatic lemon, grass and tropical flavors are bright and juicy. Softens on the smooth finish. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine, 08/04)

2002 Semillon Chardonnay South Eastern Australia ($9). Fresh bouquet leads to clean, crisp pear and green apple fruit, with melon and sweet pea. Picks up a splash of lime on the tasty finish. Ready to drink now. (Bargain Wine, 04/03)

Juniper Estate 2005 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc Margaret River Crossing ($20). Nice! With an earthy, grassy underpinning to the bright citrus, passionfruit and crisp green apple fruit. Long, juicy finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. (Weekend Wine 04/08)

Plantagenet 2008 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc Western Australia Hazard Hill ($13). Crisp and juicy, with a ripe nectarine core and accents of bright lemon zest and mineral. Clean, smooth finish. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2009-10-08)

Rosemount 2000 Diamond Semillon-Chardonnay ($7). This is a great blend — the fresh floral element of the Semillon balances the traditional richness of the Chardonnay to create a lush and easy drinking wine. Good citrus fruit and little to no oak make this perfect for spring sipping. Wonderful on its own as an aperitif. Or try it with dishes like Chinese chicken salad, oysters on the half shell, or sushi. (ETFOFW, 04/01)

Torbreck 2008 Semillon Barossa Valley Woodcutter’s ($18). Light and bright, with moderate-intensity notes of pineapple, dried pineapple and melon, with touches of mineral and cream on the bright finish. A happy, easy wine that’s ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2010-07-01)

Woodstock 2004 Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc McLaren Vale ($13). Tangy, almost tart, with concentrated passionfruit and citrus flavors nicely accented with herbal notes. Dry and crisp and great for a hot day. Ready to drink now. (World Wide Wine 04/05)

Wyndham Estate 2002 Semillon Bin 777 ($9). Youthful and a nice change of pace — with lime zest, lemongrass and some good texture and body. A good match for summer salads and citrus spiked seafood dishes. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine, 06/03)
