Devil’s Lair 2004 Fifth Leg White Western Australia ($12). Absolutely crazy about this Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Chardonnay blend — quite possibly the new “house ” white here at the Wine Skinny! Crisp and refreshing and perfect on a hot day — juicy, fragrant lime and lime zest runs throughout a pretty mix of apple and white nectarine, and stone notes. Really appealing and ready to drink now. 2001 Sauvignon Blanc Adelaide Hills ($17). I had just read a brief article on this Australia winery the evening before, and then this wine appeared at the tasting. So I’ll admit that I may not have gone into this one totally “blind” to its merits. But still. This is truly outstanding! Concentrated and focused fruit include bright pear and apple, with just enough citrus, vicious acidity, and subtle grass and herbal notes. Ready to drink now.
