d’Arenberg

2004 The Stump Jump White McLaren Vale ($10). Aromatic floral, citrus, tropical and stonefruit flavors come together deliciously to make a great, racy Summer white. Lingers nicely. A blend of Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Marsanne. A delicious match to spicy shellfish and salads. (Weekend Wine 07/05)

2004 Marsanne-Viognier McLaren Vale The Hermit Crab ($16). A blend of Viognier and Marsanne, offering an opulent bouquet of floral, apricot and tropical aromas. Appealingly fresh and balanced with juicy peach and melon playing off crisp green apple. Finishes with a burst of citrus and a nice touch of nutty oak. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 07/05)

2004 Roussanne McLaren Vale The Money Spider ($22). A compelling balance between fresh florals and rich, ripe fruit flavors works nicely. Pear, peach, honeysuckle, wildflower honey, even a touch of ripe fig. Lovely finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. (Weekend Wine 07/05)

Hugh Hamilton 2005 Verdelho McLaren Vale The Trickster ($16). The grapes are picked young for this wine, so that they’ll have loads of zingy acidity and freshness rather than being particularly ripe. This wine is indeed young and “grapey,” with smooth tropical notes sounding through the crisp finish. An ideal match for spicy calamari or just about any spicy shellfish starter. Ready to drink right this second. (Weekend Wine 04/06)

Innocent Bystander 2009 Pinot Gris Victoria ($15). Really liked this one — for its crisp green apple and melon fruit, juicy citrus and cut grass accent that lingers on the moderate finish. Interesting! Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2010-07-21)

Off the Leash 2005 No Oak White Adelaide Hills Finn ($25). From producer Ravenswood Lane, a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Gris and Semillon. Sleek, vibrant and bone dry, with crisp apple, apricot kernel and citrus zest notes that linger on the focused finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. (Weekend Wine 04/08)

Ravenswood Lane 2006 Pinot Gris Adelaide Hills The Lane ($30). Dry and crisp, with green pear laced with lemon, mineral, and touches of warm spice. Medium bodied with a moderate finish. Ready to drink now. (Weekend Wine 04/08)

Two Hands 2006 Moscato Barossa Valley Brilliant Disguise ($24). Delicate, verging on too light, with a fresh, grapey character touched with pretty floral and honeyed notes. An appealing change of pace for fresh, creamy cheeses and summer fruit desserts. Ready to drink now. (Splurge Wine 06/07)
