Past
Issues: Texas Wine Pick, aug/sep
1999
This was just not a hard choice
at all. We were already doing a feature
on Sauvignon Blancs (check out Robyn's
Picks for more!) and wondered if there
might be a good Texas Sauvignon Blanc choice
to include. And sure enough!
The
is our Texas Wine Pick
for this issue. We found it to be full of
orchard fruits, especially pears and peaches,
and most crisp and refreshing. It turns
very slightly sweet on the lingering fruit
finish, so we think it would be great with
foods with a little spicy kick.
Chad Auler, Director of Sales
(and son of winemaker Ed Auler) told the
Skinny that Fall Creek has had a "tough
time keeping up with demand." We don't
doubt it! So rush out and buy a bottle,
or several, before they're all gone.
Retails for around $8. Production
is 5,000 cases. The distribution is 85%
in Texas (check your upscale grocery and
liquor stores), with an additional 15% scattered
around Virginia, New York, Washington D.C.,
Louisiana, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Arizona,
Arkansas, Great Britan, Switzerland, Germany,
and Netherlands.
Finally, and very impressively,
this wine was the first ever Texas wine
to receive a "Best Buy" designation
by the Wine Spectator. Congratulations!
