Past Issues: Tasting Bordeaux -- Saint-Estephe

Saint-Estephe is the "he said" to Margaux’s "she said." Full-bodied, muscular, concentrated, and with famously firm tannins, wines from this region are Cabernet Sauvignon in its most masculine of forms. The wine’s brawny intensity is attributed to Saint-Estephe’s soil having more clay in the mix than other areas of the Medoc. Being pretty tough Cabernet drinkers ourselves, we’re looking forward to a big dose of the yang of Bordeaux!

So once again, we were off to the local wine store to do some Bordeaux shopping! Here’s what we bought:

Chateau Calon-Segur 1996 St.-Estephe ($80)
Chateau Cos-d’Estournel 1999 St.-Estephe ($50)
Chateau Cos-d’Estournel 1996 St.-Estephe ($110)
Chateau Cos-Labory 1999 St.-Estephe ($23)
Chateau Haut-Beausejour 1999 St.-Estephe ($19)
Chateau Lafon-Rochet 1997 St.-Estephe ($32)
Chateau Montrose 2000 St.-Estephe ($84)

We’ll report back next issue with our tasting notes!
