Restaurant Review - South of France, Atlanta GA

Quaint and slightly old-fashioned, South of France is an endearing spot. Regularly chosen in the "most romantic" categories, and with good reason, the restaurant is known for its traditional country French dishes. No fusion cuisine here. Nothing overly haute either. We love this kind of place for quiet, comfortable meals with family and friends.

On our visit, we especially enjoyed the Coquilles St. Jacques appetizer ($11) – the Cognac Cream Sauce was indeed "divine," as promised on the menu. Entrée standouts include Veal Oscar ($20) and, our favorite, Breast of Chicken with Olive Tapenade ($15).

We almost hate to let this cat out of the bag, but the French wine prices are remarkably good! Well-chosen selections from Burgundy top this small but lovely list, but you’ll also find Bordeaux and the Rhone Valley represented. A dozen or so American wines round things out nicely. (april 2001)

Entrées range from $15 to $35.
Appetizers range from $6 to $17.
