Restaurant Review - Barolo Grill, Denver CO

Stepping into Denver’s Barolo Grill is like entering the Tuscan farmhouse you always dream about. The one that is warmly and perfectly decorated, with flowers everywhere and your own olive trees out back. The one where pipes never break, workmen never leave a job half finished, and you get to spend meal after leisurely meal basking in the Tuscan glow of it all. The one that only exists in the form of American restaurants.

Barolo Grill is rustically romantic and serves dreamy food to match. The wine list will knock your socks off, especially if you’re a fan of Barolo wines (hence the name). Service is friendly-casual, in a good way.

We sampled outstanding risotto two ways – traditionally and perfectly prepared with mushrooms, and in the form of croquettes, another traditional Italian dish that is rarely seen in the U.S. Pastas were outstanding as well, highlighted by a spinach ravioli stuffed with savory mushrooms and pancetta. Among the house specialties, don’t miss the crispy roasted duck served with garlic-laced hash browns.

Desserts stick to the authentic Northern Italian cuisine and offer the perfect light and fruity ending to a truly wonderful meal. (june 2002)
