Past Issues: Bargain Wine, aug/sep 2007 --
Sonoma Vineyards

In this regular feature, we spotlight those wines that offer great bang for the buck -- $15 and under, to be exact. Here you'll find our everyday wines, house pours, and occasionally a great new find. Have a favorite Bargain Wine? Tell us about it at editor@wineskinny.com

Check out Sonoma Vineyards - a new wine brand from Rodney Strong Vineyards. It has kicked off with a Chardonnay and a Merlot, both from Sonoma County, and both priced at $15!

We think these wines are a heck of a value, with a great-looking series of photographs by Olaf Beckmann adorning the labels and sleek, fresh fruit flavors that are not encumbered with heavy oak influence.

Sonoma Vineyards 2005 Chardonnay Sonoma County ($15). Quite a tasty Chardonnay at a great price, featuring clean, juicy pineapple, citrus and a touch of lush peach that mingle on the fresh finish. Unoaked. Ready to drink now.

Sonoma Vineyards 2003 Merlot Sonoma County ($15). Appealing for its plush berry flavors laced with touches of chocolate, baking spices and toast with a moderate, balanced finish. Ready to drink now.

This now-fabulously-named column used to be called Easy To Find One Figure Wines, for reasons that we cannot currently remember but were surely enthusiastic about at the time. Anyhoo, check out our Past Issue Index for more great value-priced wine selections!
