For those of you interested in upping the environmentally-conscious factor in your cocktails, organic spirits are becoming more widely available. (And there’s some evidence to suggest that organic spirits pack less of a hangover, which I suppose make some intuitive sense, since they are probably “cleaner” products overall…)
Blue Ice Organic Vodka has been one of my go-to vodkas over the past year or so. It’s kosher, USDA Certified Organic, and blends Idaho water with locally harvested, organic winter wheat. The result is a crisp, lightly sweet (in that wheat way), lightly spicy vodka. The wheat is grown without the use of pesticides or chemicals, and Master Distiller Bill Scott conducts distillation through “a proprietary certified organic fermentation process that uses no chemical additives of any kind,” according to the press materials. The suggested retail is $24.
I enjoy this vodka cold and neat, or with just a simple squeeze of seasonal citrus. But here’s a cocktail idea just in time for Valentine’s Day — sounds pretty tasty to me, and love the name!
Add ingredients to a cocktail mixer, shake well, and strain. Garnish with a lime wheel and red cherry.
