L’Aventure Splurge x 3
The thing I like best about Paso Robles winery L’Aventure — well, aside from the really good wines — is that I know what to expect. This winery has a style that comes through in every single one of their upper-tier wines. They are rich, ripe, lush and supple, usually with fairly high alcohol that somehow doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Here’s a run-down of the 07 vintage:
L’Aventure 2007 Côte à Côte Paso Robles ($85). A Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre blend, offering seriously concentrated, blackberry jam aromas and flavors, with complexity building through the finish, picking up dark chocolate, pepper spice, sweet vanilla and oaky notes along the way. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
L’Aventure 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles Estate ($85). Big and dense, with spicy black currant, blackberry, blueberry, clove and rich tobacco aromas and flavors that build through the slightly alcoholic finish. This is monster Cab that packs a flavor wallop. Ready to drink now and over the next 3-4 years. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2010-02-22)
L’Aventure 2007 Estate Cuvee Paso Robles ($85). A blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, offering layers of supple blackberry and black cherry, with accents of licorice, creamy vanilla, tobacco and spicy oak that linger on the concentrated finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
