I’ve written about Alma Rosa before — and based on these latest releases, I’ll be singing their praises for a while!
Alma Rosa 2008 Pinot Gris Sta. Rita Hills La Encantada Vineyard ($18). Juicy apricot and crisp nectarine and apple combine on a pretty, silky wine. With bright acidity on the smooth finish. Good value, too! Enjoyed with a simply grilled swordfish steak with one of those mango salsas with just a little bit of spicy heat. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Alma Rosa 2008 Pinot Blanc Sta. Rita Hills La Encantada Vineyard ($28). Full bodied, offering juicy apple, bright lemon zest character, and generous, freshly grated baking spices. Full finish. Try with bacon-wrapped scallops. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Alma Rosa 2008 Chardonnay Santa Barbara County ($19). Clean and pure, with juicy apple and pear fruit, picking up refreshing tropical citrus on the lightly creamy finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Alma Rosa 2007 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills El Jabali Vineyard ($28). Fruit driven, with intense, aromatic nectarine and apricot fruit layered with juicy citrus, vanilla and wet stone accents. Long, pure, clean finish. Ready to drink now and over the next four or five years. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2009-10-11)
Alma Rosa 2007 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills ($32). Intense dark berry and cherry flavors are layered with dried herbs, mushroom and sweet tobacco notes. With a long, rich finish. Benefits from a bit of decanting now. should continue to smooth out over the next three or four years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Alma Rosa 2007 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills El Jabali Vineyard Mt. Eden Clone ($43). My own little love affair with Alma Rosa continues with this earthy, funky (in a good way) Pinot. Offering mushroom, loam and earth notes that play off the lush plum and red berry fruit, all folding together on a complex, evolving finish. Ready to drink now and over the next seven or eight years. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2009-10-20)
