Winery Spotlight: Two from Taltarni

I’m writing this post because I absolutely loved one of these wines. And the other is a juicy, well-priced everyday white from the same Australian winery, so let’s start there:
Taltarni 2008 Sauvignon Blanc Victoria-Tasmania ($13). A good wine at a good price, with juicy pineapple, passion fruit and tangerine leading the way to a mouthwatering finish. Clean and appealing, and ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Now for the really good stuff — the Taltarni 2003 Cephas Pyrenees-Victoria ($40) is a Shiraz (81%)-Cabernet Sauvignon blend that offers seamless, balanced, supple blackberry and currant fruit character, with spice, vanilla, mint and smoke notes that linger on the supple finish. Lovely stuff. Ready to drink now and over the next five or six years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
(I paired this wine with a seasonal dish of roasted Cornish game hens and herbed wild mushrooms — delish!)
To learn more about Taltarni, visit www.taltarni.com.au. (And no, I don’t see a single mention of Cephas anywhere on their website either. Go figure…)
