06cabsauvI’ve been tasting Gordon Brothers Family Vineyards wines for about a decade now, albeit on a somewhat sporadic, “here and there” level. But I have to say that I don’t remember a single time thinking that a Gordon Brothers wine was anything less than really good. Perhaps my timing was good and I simply missed some not-so-good examples — or perhaps they just excel at consistently making reasonably priced, good quality wines. Either way, it’s a label that I think of as a safe bet.

Here are the latest Gordon Brothers wines I’ve tasted and liked — 4 out of 4, this time!

Gordon Brothers 2008 Chardonnay Columbia Valley ($16). A fairly light, fresh style for an oaked and “malo’ed” Chardonnay, with juicy pear, apple and light tropical citrus aromas and flavors that finish with toast and clove spice. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Gordon Brothers 2007 Merlot Columbia Valley ($23). Smooth and rich, with medium- to full-bodied mixed berry and cherry fruit laced with mocha and baking spices. Ready to drink now and over the next three or four years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Gordon Brothers 2006 Syrah Columbia Valley ($20). Appealing, aromatic blackberry and black currant fruit is laced with mint, mocha and licorice, with slightly earthy tannins supporting a smooth, lengthy finish. Ready to drink now and over the next two or three years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Gordon Brothers 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley ($23). Concentrated and spicy, with blackberry and cherry aromas and flavors layered with tobacco, cedar and exotic spices, with a toasty, elegant finish. Ready to drink now and over the next four or five years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
