Rave: “House” Reds from Ruffino

Someone asked me recently to recommend a good “house” red for summer. I think these two from Ruffino would be great choices! The 07 Chianti for everyday, and the 05 Ducale “tan label” when you want something a step up. Both are bright, food friendly and widely available, and I would suggest giving them a slight chill for summer serving. If you don’t have a wine cellar, just 15 minutes or so in the fridge does the trick. Enjoy!
Ruffino 2007 Chianti Superiore ($13). Nicely concentrated and plenty juicy, with red berry and cherry fruit, light floral accents, and a delicately spicy finish. Versatile and easy to like. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Ruffino 2005 Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale ($27). There’s appealing depth and intensity to the cherry and red berry fruit, with fresh tobacco and savory herbal notes, and a long, mouthwatering finish that picks up a light peppery kick. Ready to drink now and over the next four or five years. Locate this wine online in your area.
