Here’s a round-up of tasty wines from Australia that I’ve enjoyed lately — a little of this, and a little of that. Cheers!

Brothers in Arms 2002 Shiraz Langhorne Creek
($36). Concentrated but elegant, with plum and black cherry fruit laced with dried fennel and a touch of eucalyptus. Long, fleshy finish. Ready to drink now and over the next three or four years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Penfolds 2007 Shiraz Cabernet South Australia Koonunga Hill ($12). Fragrant and rich, with loads of red berry aromas and flavors accented with chocolate, light peppery spice and a smooth, plummy, toasty finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Robert Oatley 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Mudgee ($19). Mouthwatering red cherry aromas practically leap out of the glass and repeat on the palate — smooth, lipsmacking, with accent of currant, fresh herbs and toasty vanilla. Easy to like. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

angusAngus the Bull 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon South Eastern Australia ($19). Concentrated black cherry and blackberry flavors are accented with spicy bittersweet chocolate, a touch of mint and toasty oak, with a nicely structured length. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

    WHITES
Brokenwood 2007 Semillon Hunter Valley ($20). Racy lime aromas and flavors stay focused from beginning to end, with grassy character and some pear fruit mid-palate and a slate note on the finish. Super refreshing and clean. This totally works now (think this Spring and Summer as an aperitif or with shellfish), but I would also be really interested to try it again in five or six years. So maybe buy some for now and some for later! Locate this wine online or in your area. (2009-03-03)

Penfolds 2007 Chardonnay South Australia Koonunga Hill ($12). A great bargain for its full-bodied, aromatic tropical fruit — pineapple, melon — and peachy character, with touches of cream and vanilla on the lightly citrusy finish. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area.

    muscatDESSERT
Chambers NV Muscat Rutherglen Rosewood Vineyards
($16, 375ml). Each time I taste these Chambers stickies, I marvel at what a fantastic deal they are… With concentrated raisin, candied citrus and spicecake aromas and flavors and a long, sweet (but not syrupy) finish. Delish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
