As a confirmed bubble-head, I’ve been completely happy to be tasting a bunch of sparkling wines lately. Honestly — those of you who save sparkling wines for special occasions are a mystery to me!

I pop the cork on a bottle of bubbly on a regular basis. They’re really food-friendly, refreshing, and just plain delicious. And if you think that the only good ones are expensive, check out this range of prices:

Gruet NV Brut Blanc de Noirs New Mexico ($14). Crisp and refreshing, with quaffable citrus and light berry notes that finish lightly toasty. Ready to drink now and over the next year or two. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Gloria Ferrer NV Blanc de Noirs Sonoma County ($20). Easy to love for its racy, juicy red berry aromas and flavors that pick up vanilla, buttered toast and light spice notes through the fresh finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

sacyRoederer Estate NV Brut Anderson Valley ($22). Always a reliable choice — and a favorite go-to of many wine industry types, this always seems to offer nicely balanced apple, pear, citrus, yeast, spice and toast notes that stay medium-bodied and flavorful through the finish. Food-friendly, too! Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2008-12-27)

Louis de Sacy NV Brut Champagne ($35). Just a spectacularly good value — one of the best NV Champagnes I’ve tasted in a while! With deftly balance to the pretty red berry and light citrus fruit, rich pie dough, cream and spice notes. Long, rich, mouthwatering finish. Ready to drink now and over the next two or three years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

chandon-dkny-heroDomaine Chandon NV DKNY Twenty Year Cuvee ($50). Released to celebrate the 20th birthdays of both Domaine Chandon and fashion brand DKNY, this is a pretty, pear-scented bubbly, with soft pear and apple flavors accented with creme brulee, toasted nuts and bread notes that linger on the moderate finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Ayala NV Brut Rosé Champagne Majeur ($55). Racy and full of juicy fruit — mouthwatering apple and citrus — with toast and spice accents that gain in intensity through the refreshing finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Philipponnat NV Brut Rosé Champagne Reserve ($69). Delicate and bright, with strawberry, red currant, orange peel and creme brulee notes that stay light and pretty through the finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

I loved this piece on bubbly and agree–why wait for a special occasion? Every day is special…
