If you’re going to spend $40 on a bottle of wine, it really ought to be one as delicious as any of these:
Calera 2006 Pinot Noir Mt. Harlan Mills Vineyard ($45). Pretty, ripe red cherry and crushed berry flavors are accented with mineral and complex spiced tea notes that gain in intensity through the concentrated, lingering, mouthwatering finish. Ready to drink now and over the next five or six years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Chateau des Laurets 2005 Puisseguin-St.-Emilion ($39). Concentrated, deep blackberry aromas and flavors are laced with smoke, anise, brown spices and mineral notes that linger on the smooth finish. Just a baby now — and in need of some decanting if opened soon. Otherwise drink from 2012 and through the next six to eight years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Gordon Brothers 2003 Tradition Columbia Valley ($45). Complex and savory, with layers of baking spices, smoke and briar accenting the smooth blackberry and black cherry aromas and flavors. Good length and chalky tannins. A nearly 50-50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with just a dash of Syrah. Ready to drink now and over the next three or four years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Olsen Estates 2006 Syrah Columbia Valley ($42). Concentrated black currant and berry fruit is tightly wound, but with such silky tannins that it’s almost too easy to drink. With complex accents of coffee, black pepper, tar and earth that linger on the generous finish. Ready to drink now and over the next four or five years. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Sokol Blosser 2006 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills ($40). Delicate, elegant, but still intense and showing some grip, this is lovely stuff. With pretty black fruits — currant, cherry, berry — and subtle coffee, wet earth and exotic spice notes. Generous, supple finish. Delicious now and over the next six to eight years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Thank you for mentioning our 2006 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir! We are very proud of our Pinots and we’re so glad you enjoyed it.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if there is anything we can do for you in the future. Cheers!
