Restaurant: Rainbow Lodge, Houston
For those of you who don’t know — Houston has great food. Better yet? It’s great food at great prices.
Yes, you have to struggle with traffic. Yes, the humidity in summer is stifling. And yes, we’re don’t have a particularly glamorous image. (Part of that, understand, is that we don’t particularly care about creating one…)
In any event, if you’re ever in town, you should do yourself a favor and visit Rainbow Lodge. The setting is uniquely Houston. And the food, under the leadership of Chef Randy Rucker, is better than ever.
For more details, read the review by Alison Cook of the Houston Chronicle. She’s one of my favorite restaurant reviewers — and I think she really captures what’s working at Rainbow Lodge. (She’s also one of the best reasons to read the Chronicle, which seems to be going the way of all major city newspapers — with regular layoffs and mostly running AP feeds on its way out of business…)
Oh — and if you’re looking for a delicious and affordable lunch idea, check out the weekday 3-course business lunch for just under $15. It just may be the best deal in town.
