Winery Spotlight: B Cellars

This winery had me at their tagline: “Napa Valley Blends.”
Straight to the point; no hyperbole.
I also like the opening sentence of their “Our Story” press piece: “The collaboration between Jim Borsack and Duffy Keys, the founders of B Cellars, began as a simple love for food and wine.”
Sounds like a familiar love to build a life on…
So when you combine that promising intro with the name of the B Cellars sample I received (“Blend 24″) and my unapologetic giddiness at the eminent return (8 days, 7 hours and counting) of my sorely-missed favorite television show, I was all set to love this wine.
That being said, we all know what can happen when you get your expectations too high about something… it’s just tough to live up to all that. (Though I have every confidence that Day 7 of 24 will be an exception to this rule!)
B Cellars 2005 Blend 24 Napa Valley($38). Does not disappoint. Sort of a Napa-styled Super Tuscan, with concentrated black cherry and berry aromas and flavors accented with sweet tobacco, mineral and a touch of mint on a meaty frame. Long, complex finish. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (43%), Merlot (30%), Sangiovese (20%) and Petite Sirah. Benefits from a bit of decanting now to smooth things out, but should continue to age nicely for nearly a decade. Locate this wine online or in your area.
Looks like the winery can ship to a lot of places, so my advice to wine and 24 fans is to order a bottle for the January 11th premiere (or maybe two bottles, since it’s a 2-night premiere…) before the clock runs out!
