    A couple of days ago, I wrote about a few Bargain Whites — now here are some reds to go with. Enjoy!

    Jose Maria da Fonseca 2005 Terra do Sado Periquita ($10). A lot of wine for the money, this Portuguese red offers concentrated blackberry and plum fruit accented with toast, spice and vanilla. Shows some grip on the finish. Ready to drink now and over the next couple of years. Locate this wine online or in your area.

    Les Vignerons de la Mediterranee 2007 Corbieres Les Deux Rives ($9). A heck of a deal. Not overly complex, but completely likeable for its ripe berry flavors and savory spice notes that persist nicely on the moderate finish. Ready to drink now. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Carignon. Locate this wine online or in your area. (2008-12-14)

    Mirassou 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon California ($12). Nice for the price, with moderate blackberry and black cherry flavors and toasty vanilla and light spice notes.     Planeta 2007 Sicilia La Segreta ($15). Ripe and full of flavor, with berry and cherry jam character that is balanced with appealing spice and acidity notes. With a bright, focused finish.
