I recently tasted through a couple of dozen white wines from around the world — all priced at $15 or less. Honestly, most were not great. But a few made the cut:

rodney-strong-sbRemy Pannier 2007 Vouvray Loire Valley ($14). Smooth and fragrant, with white peach, pear, fig and almond notes that linger delicately on the soft finish. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area.

El Portillo 2008 Sauvignon Blanc Uco Valley Finca El Portillo ($10). Not overly complex, but light and refreshing, with tangerine pith and grapefruit notes. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area.

MontGras 2008 Sauvignon Blanc Casablanca Valley Reserve ($11). Bright lime laces juicy grapefruit character, with touches of melon and herbs. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Rodney Strong 2007 Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma County Charlotte’s Home ($14). A heck of a deal, with pretty pear and peach fruit laced with zippy lime notes. Picks up a trace of mineral on the fresh finish. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Heron 2007 Chardonnay California ($12). Easy and appealing, with smooth tropical melon and fresh citrus notes. Finishes clean. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area.

Tapestry 2007 Chardonnay McLaren Vale Unoaked ($14). Mineral-tinged, crisp and fresh, with peachy notes and a long finish. Ready to drink now. Locate this wine online or in your area.
