If you cook at home much at all, chances are good that you already own a piece of the Stanley Cheng empire. As CEO of Meyer Corporation, which produces or owns licenses on everything from Kitchen Aid, Circulon, Anolon and Farberware, to private label cookware for Macy’s and Sur La Table, Cheng has the kitchen covered.
In 1996, Hong Kong-born Cheng and wife Helen purchased an estate in Napa Valley, which they named Hestan Vineyards, and immediately got busy planting blocks of Bordeaux varietals. By 2005, Hestan Vineyards wines were ready for release, and the debut 2002 vintage was a critical success.
The newest line is called Stephanie, after the couple’s only daughter, whose symphony harp is pictured on the label. The consulting winemaker is Jeff Gaffner, who has spent time at small, family-owned and boutique wineries like Saxon Brown and Black Kite. In addition to being absolutely delicious, these Stephanie wines run about half the price of Hestan Vineyards.
These are all under-1000 case production wines, so get ‘em while you can!
